" COUNTER POINT "

Original Painting: Acrylic on Hardboard Panel
Image Size: 7 x 5 Inches   Copyright © Rich Moyers 2012

This object, while always stationary, can be, and was actually designed to be VERY aggressive. Called a "spindle"... it was used in days gone by to keep track of receipts and other small pieces of paper. The once familiar saying "Please don't Fold, Spindle, or Mutilate" was coined to keep people from doing just THAT, with this menacing device. It's often  seen in Vintage Films as late as the 1960's....CAREFUL NOW!

Two Metallic colors are enhanced by their differing surface treatments, Semi-Rough Texture for the Grey Spindle Base, and a High Gloss Silver for the Spike Point, and a Smooth Satin Gloss allows the slightly crosshatched Buff colored wall to recede, so that the darker Walnut colored counter comes forward anchoring the piece.
