( New Mexico Abstracts Series )

Original Mixed Media Painting: Acrylic, Gouache, and Watercolor on Winsor & Newton Watercolor Paper.     Image Size:7 x 8.50 inches     Framed Size: 13.5 x 17.5 inches (museum mounted)

My stylized abstracted view through the tops of the pine trees to the snow covered Sangre Di Cristo mountains settling in to their evening blues and grays, with a huge golden moonrise back lit by the famous brilliant blazing red sunset. This phenomenal blood red sky was named by Spanish Explorers "Sangre Di Cristo" or "The Blood Of Christ" for it's awesome ethereal beauty and supernatural power.

I went for high contrast with nearly silhouetted dark Flow Acrylic pine tress against a middle ground of Acrylic Gouache blue and gray mountain forms, the deep sky laid in "Wet into Wet" of Acrylic and Watercolor. Both the Snow and the Moon have more textural slightly impasto brushwork for added dimensional affect.
